BBQ

On our way out of Woolwine we drove on the beautiful Blue Ridge Highway. Amazing fall colors everywhere, incredible views that seemed to be never ending and nobody was out on the road! We were heading south through the Carolinas so, of course, we HAD to stop and eat some BBQ along the way. We called our friend Grey who’s from North Carolina and asked for some help in the matter. It turned out he’s from Durham and we weren’t going that far east so we had to take our chances. He recommended going to Lexington, NC and trying Lexington Barbecue. We got off the interstate and headed just a little east and found ourselves sitting at the counter of this jam packed BBQ joint. The people were incredibly friendly and the guy sitting next to us even gave us the low down on how to order the BBQ. We ended up with a sliced BBQ pork sandwich with red slaw, a “tray” of chopped BBQ and course chopped BBQ also with red slaw, hushpuppies (which we could see the guy cranking out of a machine into the fryer) & and two cups of cheerwine (which tasted like a cross between Dr. Pepper and cherry cola). Lunch was delicious and cheap and on our way out we bought some of their house made “sweet & tangy” hot sauce.
