Since leaving Atlanta, GA on the 14th we’ve driven over 1700 miles and today the 16th we’ll drive another 600!!! The good news is when we stop tonight we’ll be in Oceanside, CA…Adrienne’s hometown!!! Because of the epic amount of miles we’ve conquered over the last two days we haven’t had a chance to do much of anything other than DRIVE, eat, sleep and DRIVE some more. Some highlights: crossing the Mississippi River, seeing tons of cotton fields and windmills in Texas…while driving by the cotton fields, we read up on cotton and learned about the Ogallala Aquifer, which is one of the worlds largest underground water tables and saturates the ground under the cotton fields in Texas…another highlight: finally crossing out of Texas into New Mexico after something like 800 plus miles. Downfalls: finally eating at a Cracker Barrel, we had been talking about it since the road trip started when we left Seattle and it was horrible…a microwaved plate of chicken and dumplings came to the table cold twice:( (the server did however take care of the cold gross food) the menus were sticky and disgusting…the little “country store” out front was about the only thing Cracker Barrel has going for it, it’s packed full of kitchy “country” items and old fashioned food snacks like moon pies. This morning we got up and were on the road before the sun came up!!! It was so beautiful to watch southern Arizona wake up…the sunlight bounces off the rock formations and dessert landscape with amazing red, orange and yellow vibrancy.
