O’side Cali

Well, the end is certainly near…we forgot to take pictures of almost everything we ate but we did have TONS of fun! We got to town around 1pm and had lunch at a micro brewery/pizza place, Pizza Port…a cool place in downtown Carlsbad filled with hanging surf boards and other beachy paraphernalia. Then headed to O’side just five minutes away up the coast, drove by the Oceanside Pier & landed at my parent’s front door. Caught up with my parents about our travels and all and then out to a cool “punk/surfer” sushi restaurant called Fish Joint. We had all kinds of decadent rolls with crazy names like “gorilla ballz”, “power bowl” & “the professor”! The next morning we had breakfast at the Beach Break Cafe, my neighborhood breaky/lunch cafe owned by our long time family friends, Gary and Zell. Then we got a tour of the new Beach Break Cafe…it’s moving down the street to a brand new building they built from the ground up…it’ll be opening soon! After breakfast Zack bravely ventured out to Harah’s casino with “the girls”. It was a day filled with my mom and three of her girlfriends, my best friend Ali and I. There was some pool side lounging, gambling, buffet eating and crazy 50 something ladies whooping it up…he was the only male in the group but he didn’t seem to mind and neither did my moms girlfriends!!! On our last day, we washed the car (with my dads help!) and rearranged the inside to get ready for the final leg of our trip. Then we made dinner for my parents and some old friends from our neighborhood, a simple pazole and a tray of nachos (Zack’s speciality!). It was a nice low-key evening…except for…”karie-oke”…my mom has a karaoke machine in the living room and she turned it on to show us how it works! The lyrics are fed right to the tv and the little machine is equipped with two microphones. (For those of you who don’t know, my moms name is Karie and her email address is actually karie-oke…she’s just a little bit of a karaoke fanatic…it’s not unheard of to have to turn down the vocals on her mic so other people can have a chance at a party where a machine is present). Need less to say she’s always super fun and there’s never a dull moment at a karaoke party with my mom.
